The winners of this year’s Hugo Awards for the Year's Best Science Fiction and Fantasy were announced Saturday evening, September 1st, 2007, at the World Science Fiction Convention in Yokohama, Japan. The Hugo Awards are voted upon by those with an attending or supporting membership at the year’s Worldcon making them a “People’s Choice Award” compared to the Nebula Awards which are voted upon by active Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America members.

This year’s Hugo winners include:

• Best Novel: Rainbows End by Vernor Vinge [Tor, 2006]
• Best Novella: “A Billion Eves” by Robert Reed [Asimov’s Oct/Nov 2006]
• Best Novelette: “The Djinn’s Wife” by Ian McDonald [Asimov’s July 2006]
• Best Short Story: “Impossible Dreams” by Tim Pratt [Asimov’s July 2006]

It was Vinge’s fifth Hugo, this third win for a novel. Locus Online points to an analysis of the results (pfd) by Science Fiction Awards Watch.
