MSNBC Says U.S. Army is Ignoring Needed Anti-RPG System

MSNBC has a pair of follow-up articles to two articles (1,2) in September on what it claims is the U.S. Army’s apparent decision to ignore successful tests of an Israeli anti-rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) system in favour of continuing on development of an American system, thereby leaving American tanks in Iraqi and Afghanistan unprotected for the foreseeable future. The articles state that the Israeli Trophy system which is designed to detect and shoot than oncoming RPG has been proven 98% effective in Israeli trials and the Israeli Defence Forces are purchasing the system for 100 tanks. While the system could be purchased by the U.S. Army, it wishes to wait for the development of a Raytheon Corp. System as part of its $160 billion Future Combat System (FCS). MSNBC has a list of 29 questions it sent the U.S. Army on December 29th and the U.S. Army’s reply.
