MS Atlas Gets New Name, Ship Date

Scott Guthrie, Microsoft General Manager responsible for a host of .NET techologies including ASP.NET and its Ajax enabled Atlas extension has a blog post on the details of Atlas’ production name and shipping status. Microsoft will ship a “fully supported ‘Atlas’ 1.0 release on top of ASP.NET 2.0 and ensure that it works with Visual Studio 2005” with the planned time by the end of this year.

Atlas itself will be renamed as follows:

  • The client-side “Atlas” javascript library will be the Microsoft AJAX Library.
  • The server side tags become the ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX Extensions and they will be changed from to .
  • The “Atlas” Control Toolkit of free, shared source controls and components becomes the ASP.NET AJAX Control Toolkit.
